_________ Religious Studies _________ Akoranga Hāhi

Religious Education / Akoranga Hāhi  is a compulsory subject at all levels. 18 credits at all levels.

What will I learn? 

At Level 1 the course will enable students to gain a fuller knowledge of themselves and of the world in which they live. It will provide an awareness of religious traditions, value systems, ethical issues and problems facing contemporary life. Level 1 RE will help students engage in a thoughtful and organised way with meaning. 

At Level 2 topics we study are: 

  • The Church’s Response to Today’s World. 
  • Social Justice and actions taken. 
  • The meanings behind bible writing genre. 
  • Comparing two World Religions views on a significant issue. 

Year 12 has an overnight retreat focusing on leadership styles and preparation for Year 13 leadership roles. 

Level 3 Religious Education is an extension of all previous study and encourages discussion and thinking about the abstract of religion and living with religion on a daily basis.

Topics we study are: 

  • The study of ethics and issues currently facing Catholics today.
  • Religion and how it is expressed in NZ today. 
  • Some of the deeper meanings of life are examined and compared with other world views. How will it be assessed?

All Assessment is Internal.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in many varied activities including:

  • The annual Bishop Lyons Shield competition, 
  • Retreat programmes, 
  • Fund raising activities including mufti days, can drives etc
  • Liturgy,
  • Whānau Masses and 
  • Linking with the parish.
