11MAT

Level 1 Mathematics

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge:

Year 11 Mathematics will provide JPII students with a broad base of core topics to enable them to obtain their "Numeracy" requirements for NCEA Level 1 and University Entrance.

There is some scope within the topics listed for students to do alternative standards at the teacher's discretion, for instance doing a statistics internal AS1.11 instead of the MCAT (Mathematics Algebra Common Assessment Task)

Subject Overview

Term 1
Numeric reasoning - Using a wide range of number skills to solve a multi-step problem
Multivariate Data - Use the statistics enquiry cycle and statistical computer packages to prove and critic a statistical data set.

Term 2
Linear Algebra - Form equations, draw linear graphs and interpret features of them to solve a mathematical problem. Measurement - Use the metric system to solve problems involving lengths, area volumes, and rates.

Term 3
Algebra MCAT - Use algebra techniques to solve a wide range of problems (Calculators not allowed).
Elements of chance - Conduct a probability simulation to solve a problem.

Term 4
Chance and data - Analyze statistical information and use probability skills to solve problems

Recommended Prior Learning

Level 1 Mathematics is compulsory in Year 11, however, a good understanding of Year 10 Mathematics is expected.
