Level 2 Chemistry
Subject Description

Chemistry is about understanding the properties of substances and how these substances can change. This course aims to build upon the knowledge and understanding of Chemistry principles developed in Level 1 Science, through both practical and theoretical application.
An understanding of key chemical processes and ideas of the particle nature of matter, quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis, organic chemistry and redox chemistry will be developed. Students will develop their scientific skills, challenging their thinking skills and become more effective scientific communicators.
Level 2 Chemistry students will gain an understanding of fundamental material world concepts to prepare them for further science study through quantitative analysis and solving quantitative problems.
They will gain an understanding of oxidation-reduction reaction, explain different types of bonding and structure in solids, study the functional group of organic chemistry and analyze chemical reactivity. They will learn the application of chemistry in the real world through practical experiments and demonstrations.
Students who wish to take Level 3 Chemistry should take this course.

Pathway
Students who study Chemistry will have an understanding of how matter transforms in chemical reactions and use techniques to measure the energy and mass changes during these reactions, and evaluate the properties of different substances. The knowledge and skills they will demonstrate in this subject is an important step towards understanding the world around them, and will ensure they are capable and adept employees.
Assessment Information
Assessment will be carried out through completion of practical and theoretical tasks periodically through the year. There is an end of year external examination in this subject.Credit Information
