Level 2 Physics

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs M. Francis Vithayathil.

Physics is the study of nature and the properties of matter, forces and energy.

In Physics students apply skills learnt in Mathematics to real world examples.

In this course, students will:

Investigate physical phenomena (in the areas of mechanics, electricity, electromagnetism, light and waves, and atomic and nuclear physics)

Analyse data to deduce trends and relationships in physical phenomena.

Use physics ideas to explain an application of physics in the real world.

Subject Overview

Term 1
91171 - External - Demonstrate understanding of mechanics.
91168 - Internal - Carry out a practical physics investigation that leads to a non-linear mathematical relationship.

Term 2
91173 - External - Demonstrate understanding of electricity and electromagnetism.

Term 3
91170 - External - Demonstrate understanding of waves.

Term 4
Revision and preparation for external examination.

Recommended Prior Learning

It is a requirement that students have competent Mathematical skills and have passed both Year 11 Science and Year 11 Mathematics in order to study Level 2 Physics.

Pathway

Studying physics and learning the specific skills to solve problems demostrates your ability to grasp complex phenomena and techniques. Achieving in this subject will be a good basis for fulfilling tasks in a variety of roles in your career.
